City of McAllen, TX holds Image Public Workshop Using ResponseWare™ Technology

Citizens in audience and at home could participate with web-based polling application

Youngstown, OH – (December 31, 2008) – Turning Technologies, LLC, a leader in the response industry, provided audience response for the city of McAllen, TX during their Image Public Workshop held November 18, 2008. Organizers utilized Turning's web-based polling application ResponseWare so that participants in the audience and at home could vote using ResponseCard® keypads, mobile devices and computers simultaneously.

In an effort to promote the growth and economic prosperity of the region, the City of McAllen, McAllen Economic Development Corporation and the McAllen Chamber of Commerce, working with Godinez Communications, invited various area stakeholders to provide feedback on city branding and image at a community workshop. Held at the convention center, citizens not part of the on-site audience were welcome to watch the live broadcast on McAllen's public access channel or the webcast, available on McAllen's official website.

ResponseWare allows participants to respond via the Internet through any browser and immediately transfers results to Turning's award-winning software TurningPoint®. Devices that are most often used for responding include smart phones, laptops and desktops. A simple session ID is used to view and vote on a particular set of questions.

Those with Internet-capable mobile devices tuned in to the live broadcast, and were able to view and answer polling questions on their phone. Participants using a computer were able to watch the webcast and vote on the polling questions side-by-side on one page. Attendees at the convention center used ResponseCard keypads to submit answers during the TurningPoint® interactive PowerPoint presentation. All responses from 160 participants were instantly captured and displayed in real-time. The results will allow the city to move forward with their branding campaign.

According to event organizer, Brian Godinez of Godinez Communications, "Our city IT staff, led by Brenda Mercado, was able to customize and easily integrate TurningPoint's technology into the city's web system without any problems. The success of the event is really due to their hard work and knowledge of advanced technologies. We literally raised the bar on community involvement. Citizens can now vote community-wide from the convenience of a home office or mobile device, and be a part of the selection process on anything. We know there are a lot of other applications of this technology and we look forward to working with it in the future."
