ResponseCard XR Unveiled at BETT 2008

New handset allows for free-text and alphanumeric responses and opens up opportunities for self-paced assessment

Steljes, the specialist technology provider, today announced the UK launch of ResponseCard® XR, Turning Technologies' latest version of its interactive pupil response system. The new handset will be demonstrated at the BETT show 2008, held from January 9 – 12 at London’s Olympia, on stand B51.

The new XR handset features a multi-line LCD display and alphanumeric entry system, allowing pupils to respond to questions with text or numerical answers. Building on the wide range of multiple choice options, XR provides further features to support assessment for learning by freeing teachers to ask even more creative questions through text response.

Using the new XR handsets, pupils are able to record and submit answers at their own pace, giving them the responsibility to take charge of their learning more than ever before. Each unit works independently from one another, and - when in self-paced mode - stores data until each individual finishes a test and uploads their responses.

Mitt Nathwani, Head of Product Pioneering for Steljes Ltd, the sole distributor of Turning Technologies in the UK, commented; “this new handset boasts the largest storage capacity of any keypad on the market, ensuring maximum user participation. One of its most impressive features is its compact size and light-weight design; this makes it really easy to transport the system from room to room or even during external field trips.”

Other benefits of the XR model include its durable, rugged case for maximum longevity within the school environment, as well as its simple - yet effective - battery powered operation.

TurningPoint won last year’s BETT award for the positive impact it has had on learning and teaching, its validity and reliability as well as its ability to engage and motivate pupils.
