Turning Technologies' Turning Foundation Partners with Study Island and Performance Matters in Spring 2010 Grant Initiative
What is the purpose of the grant?
The purpose of this grant is to help educators develop 21st Century classrooms and improve achievement by providing technology and professional development tools from multiple, industry leading companies. By assembling a package of technology-based classroom programs, we hope to improve achievement and the overall success of students and teachers in the classroom. This grant package includes student response technology, a web-based standards mastery program, as well as online data management tools.
Who is eligible to apply?
Grant applications will be accepted from teachers in grades 3-12 currently teaching in an accredited, non-profit school building in the United States. There are no entry fees, and no purchase is required. Fifteen (15) classroom awards will be made.
What will recipients receive?
Grant package is valued at over $5,000.00 per classroom award. Each winning classroom will receive the following:

Turning Technologies, developer of interactive K-12 student response systems focused on engaging and motivating students while increasing achievement, will provide one 32-seat radio frequency student response system that includes: TurningPoint® and TurningPoint AnyWhere™ polling software, ResponseCard® RF LCD keypads, USB-based response RF receiver, QuestionPoint™ 2 - state-aligned question bank, customized carrying case and technical support. |

Study Island, a leading provider of online, standards-based assessment, instruction, practice, and test preparation programs for the U.S. K-12 educational market, will include a one year license of the specific classroom subject for up to 30 students as well as access to their industry award-winning customer and technical support. Study Island enables students to choose their style of learning and work at their own pace. They can work using a standard test format or choose from a wide range of interactive games. |

Performance Matters, a pioneer in the field of K-12 information management systems, has developed a web-based data management system for data driven decision making geared toward both small and large school districts across the country. Performance Matters will provide one year of access to their Progress Monitoring Module for each awarded teacher as well as technical and professional development support.

How do I apply?
Apply online using the link above. Only online submissions are accepted. All applications are to be electronically submitted by 4:30 pm EST on April 9, 2010. Awards will be announced on April 16, 2010, and recipients will be notified via email. Upon receipt of a signed publicity release and assurances related to implementation, the grant package will be released to the classroom teacher at the school address listed on the grant application.
What assurances are required?
Upon receipt of notification of award, classroom teachers will be emailed an assurance form to be signed by the teacher and building principal assuring that:
- The award will be used in a specific accredited, non-profit 3-12 grade school classroom;
- The building principal/administrator in charge supports the implementation of this award in the designated classroom;
- A one-page summary evaluation will be submitted at the end of the 2009-10 school year summarizing classroom implementation of the award
Best Practices:
Teachers are encouraged to share lessons, best practices, and successes as they implement their improvement plans. Information can be viewed and shared as part of partner user communities: Turning Technologies TurningTalk or Study Island Forums.
