History

Turning Technologies was formed with a vision to make the benefits of response technology available to a wide audience of potential users in the education and professional marketplaces. To accomplish this objective, they knew they had to meet three primary goals. First, audience response technology had to become much more affordable for the typical potential customer. Secondly the technology had to be "plug & play," easy-to–use, and seamlessly integrate into classroom and meeting environments. And finally, the potential benefits of the technology needed to be documented and communicated effectively to the broad marketplace including: increased learning, increased attentiveness, and increased productivity. The Turning team also recognized that the industry had not yet capitalized on technology advancements. With all of this in mind, they knew they could accomplish their vision.

The company introduced its first software solution in June of 2002, TurningPoint 2002, and its first hardware input device, ResponseCard IR, in early 2004. In 2005, Turning Technologies introduced its 3rd generation software, TurningPoint 2006, and the industry-leading radio frequency hardware platform, ResponseCard RF.

Innovative approaches

Turning Technologies, LLC introduced several unique approaches to audience response technology which are changing the industry. First, their TurningPoint software integrates natively into Microsoft® PowerPoint®. While competitors offer stand–alone, proprietary software, or more recently software that presents information overlaid onto PowerPoint, Turning's approach adds an easy–to-use toolbar right into PowerPoint that enables two way interactive communications with a class or audience within the PowerPoint user interface. Turning eliminated the historically complicated learning curve experienced with alternative systems. As a result, end users immediately recognized that with in minutes they could be up and running a group response system.

Secondly, Turning Technologies' ResponseCard hardware replaced bulky, delicate, expensive electronic keypad devices with its simple, low cost, durable devices the shape and weight of a credit card sized calculator. Simultaneously, they increased range and communications speed allowing much more flexibility. The simple USB receiver plugs into a computer much like a "thumb drive" and automatically communicates with up to 1,000 student ResponseCard devices in less than a second, clearly setting a new industry standard.

Additionally, Turning broke the affordability barrier across all markets. Today, audience response technology is no longer reserved for organizations with the largest budgets. TurningPoint is an affordable and extremely beneficial learning technology being used in K-12 and Higher Education classroom and in small and large companies across the country and throughout the globe.

Turning Technologies expects to maintain its position as the industry leader in audience response technology for both the Higher Education and Corporate Training industries, as well as increasing market presence in domestic K-12 and international markets. Turning continues to introduce enhanced product functionality that benefits its customers and positions its products as the premier solutions worldwide.
